1. Purpose and Scope
This policy establishes the guidelines and procedures for the safe disposal of e-waste and hazardous materials from the home offices of employees at Tribes. Even though our company operates remotely, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and ensuring the safety of our team and the public.
2. Definitions
E-Waste: Refers to discarded electronic devices or components thereof including but not limited to computers, printers, phones, and related accessories.
Hazardous Materials: Any item or agent (biological, chemical, physical) which has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment, either by itself or through interaction with other factors.
3. Policy
a. E-Waste
- All employees are encouraged to maintain a list of electronic items they purchase for work-related tasks.
- Employees must not dispose of e-waste with regular household trash.
- All e-waste should be directed to an authorised e-waste recycling center. If unsure of nearby facilities, employees can contact the company's Environmental Compliance team for guidance.
b. Hazardous Materials
- Materials like batteries, toner cartridges, and certain cleaning chemicals are to be treated as hazardous waste.
- These materials should not be disposed of with regular trash. They should be handed over to local waste management facilities that handle hazardous waste or returned to the manufacturer, if applicable.
4. Procedure
- Inventory Management
- Maintain an inventory of electronic items and hazardous materials. Regularly update this list when purchasing or disposing of items.
- Safe Storage
- Before disposal, ensure that e-waste and hazardous materials are stored safely, away from children and pets.
- Data Protection
